Dr. Srinivas Mukkamala of the Computer Science Department of the New Mexico Collage of Mining and Technology spoke to everyone about his research to study the effectiveness of using Support Vector Machines to determine the statistical significance among different features (data) that can be collected by Intrusion Detection Systems. Since IDS output could potentially be used in the courts as well as system security, the statistical confidence value associated with how the IDS reasoned is very important. His work continues back in Socorro, NM with his colleague Dr. Andrew Sung.
